CHULA VISTA, Calif. — A San Diego judge sentenced former ‘teacher of the year’ ____ to 30 years to life of prison Friday.
____ broke down in tears as she read a prepared statement in a Chula Vista courtroom, admitting to sex crimes against two former students at Lincoln Acres Elementary School in National City
“I shamed the title of teacher,” she said, sobbing as her family members watched from the courtroom gallery.
San Diego Superior Court Judge Enrique Camarena said ____ was able to groom the 11 and 12-year-old boys in plain sight.
“It wasn’t caught because she was well-respected and an award-winning teacher.”
____ admitted she manipulated her students and accepted full responsibility for her crimes.
“I exerted power and control and deceived them into thinking I was their friend,” she said, shackled and dressed in a blue prisoner’s uniform.
The 36-year-old apologized to her former students. “I ripped away their childhood.”

I’ve been reading the comment sections of YouTube videos. A lot of people think she should only get 10 to 15 years and that 30 years is excessive. There’s also been a few comments of where were teachers like this when I was in school. It’s interesting when a male teacher gets caught, and everybody wants the death penalty for him. As a victim of childhood sexual abuse by two different females growing up. I have always heard how lucky of a boy I was. And when it was investigated in the 1980s, the reason for doing nothing to one of them, is that she was a victim of childhood sexual abuse by her father. Sad, so very sad!
Prime case to examine her genesis and mens rhea on why she did this.
Beforw accepting this plea deal, She faced 165 years to life. Yes, 165 years to life.
Following the reasoning of all other registry laws and proposals, shouldn’t there be a proposal barring ALL teachers from social media? Or communicating with students through school-issued devices?
And someone please explain to me how the victims’ childhood or innocence was “ripped away” when they did nothing wrong and they’re clearly not full grown adults now. And I don’t ask due to lack of sympathy. Rather, it’s concern that those victims grow up thinking their victimhood gives them license to impose whatever harms they want on others (i.e., Jason Vukovich) or inject whatever insanity they choose into the legal system (i.e. Lauren Book).
Perhaps our scarce LE resources would be better spent further developing and advertising safe, confidential PREVENTATIVE counseling and interventions for Minor Attracted Persons. Wouldn’t it be better to prevent child sex offense victims in the first place, rather than waiting for a child to become a victim and then trying to clean up the mess after the fact? And destroying lives in the process? I think so. Let’s see if those in positions of power do as well.
Can you really imagine if the superintendent of the school district and the chief of law enforcement stood up in front of a group of parents on welcome to the school year night and gave them information on teachers and educators [potentialy committing sex crimes]? Everybody would pull their kids out of school and homeschool them.
